Technology Stock

Today the technology field is ever-changing and the companies that are involved in it have to always evolve and make wise decisions regarding their future. So in our class we are currently assessing the stock in these companies based off of  their consistency and their possibilities of growth in the future.  These are some of the companies I've chosen:

1.) Advanced Micro Device Inc.(AMD)

AMD was a good selection for me because their business seems to promising for the future. Their goods are definitely need for the future as the world will constantly need computers and the internal components that go along with them.

2. Edgewater Technology Inc.

Edgewater Technology, Inc.  is a consulting firm that provides specialty services in the areas of business advisory, analytics, data management and technology to its customer base.  This kind of business is supplemental to other business which could mean longevity in long run.

3.) Chyron Corp.

Chyron Corporation is a provider of graphics as a service for on-air and digital video applications including newsrooms, studios, sports broadcasting facilities, and corporate video environments.Media is always going to have it's place in society and the equipment is always going to advance at some point. A fair investment in my opinion.

The future of these companies will always be unknown but all we can do is predict and make our wisest decision. But the technology field will be have purpose for a very long time.

What is the Internet?

Here's an animated video I created in class that gives an abbreviated summary of what the internet is.

Technology Evolution of the 90's

These days there seems to be so many different computers and devices coming out by the quarter or the year. It's not too often we hear about the technology that paved the way for what we use today. Some of the younger generation have never even heard of these types of technologies, myself included. There are some devices and computers still used to this day. Here are some of them:

1.)  The Iomega ZIP Drive:
A device intended to replace the floppy drive. It held significantly more space than a standard HDD. It was implemented before we started using External drives and jump drives. It didn't catch on to the masses as intended.

2.)  The Sony Mini Disc:

Sony announced this product in 1992 as the technology to replace the Compact Disc. It held up to 80 minutes of music but had a smaller disks for it. I can almost say it is a predecessot to the Ipod in my opinion. It was another technology that just didn't catch on.

3.) PDA's

Before our beloved smart phones we had time where our organization was paper. Computer could do this but you couldn't take it with you. Cell phones were becoming more prevalant but they were very basic compared to now.  Around the early 2000's Palm came out with the palm pilot which was a big upgrade from any other organization device. These were obviously replaced by the modern day smartphone.

These are some of the devices that have come out over the years. Its a testament to have fast technology has changed and always will.  What may be cutting edge today may end up being a dinosaur in a few years. No  matter what technology is always going to evolve.

FREE INTERNET??

As of lately in the technology world there has some speculation the matter of free internet. Lately they have been discussing a new service from Google called Google Fiber. The notion is that they can make internet more accessible to everyone thru use of  fiberoptic cables. Fiberoptic is known to be expensive yet it is very fast. According to the site you can get internet service from the box they provide. The initial setup is $300(box-included) or 25 a month. But after the hardware is purchased the service is free. It isn't as free as they say but if it is set up as it is that would be very affordable and quality. They also provide tv services also but those are a different plan. Google has been hitting the market very hard, but they are able to pull this off like they say, it would definitely change how common the internet is the household.

IPV6: THE FUTURE OF....

When I think about how many people are on the Internet these days it baffles me. There are many countries around the world that have Internet access.  Not to mention there are so many people around the world. The worlds current population is 7,017,846,922.

I don't know about you, but that is a lot of people of  people living on this beautiful blue-green  planet. Now if u look at how many people out of us all have the Internet you'd be surprised how many do. Even in some places thought to be indigenous you can find many users, which brings us to our subject how many people will it take to get to the utilization of IPv6?

We  have and still are using our current Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). We have been using this protocol for years which means there is a plethora of IP Addresses. Now if you take a look at this chart you can see how many people there are on the Internet as of June 30, 2012:

That is a lot of people I must say.  This makes me wonder how many Internet users it would take to populate to the point where this protocol is implemented? Right here we have a diagram showing the age groups of users aged from 12 to 76 years old:

When will there be this many users online? This is one question that has yet to be answered. This vastness in availability of services is a very intriguing factor of the Internet. What are your thoughts on this matter? Talk to Me..... In Computer.

What Do You Do When You Don't Understand?

As a first year CST (Computer Systems Technology) student,  I have run into some rough patches along the way. When you first get into a class, you don't know what to expect when you get there.  I felt the same way. In this course each student is at a different point in their studies, so as a newcomer it is confusing to hear subjects that are way past your comprehension. The question is "how to deal with this matter"? There is no right or wrong answer, so I'll give you my experience. I  was at a point where the information wasn't clicking in my head at all. I was so stressed out because there was so much subject matter to cover. I would ask questions frantically in worry, only to get the answer and confuse myself or even forget.  I realized how much  I skipping ahead and wasn't absorbing much at all. So, what did I have realize I had to?

Here's a couple of things:

1.) Pace Yourself-  Don't be on a rush to nowhere. Take a quick break to recoup when your head starts hurting. Its better to get less information clearly than to have a plethora of  it along with confusion.

2.)  Ask Your Fellow Classmates- If they have the time ask them to help you. Especially with the more physical aspects such as hardware etc..

3.) Involve Yourself  More In Hands-On Work- The more hands on work you do the more the things will be imbedded in your head. With hardware for example, you can visually see these items so it easier to understand. Eventually it will all become second nature to you.

4. Home Study- I know some students have other endeavors in their lives but finding time for self study is a great thing. Don't go crazy. Apply method #1 to that. Even do a quick " where am I at" runthrough. A light study.

5.) State of Mind- Clear your mind as much as possible. I struggle with that all the time. Stress makes everything seem harder to do.

6.)  Patience- Eventually all this scattered information will start to all come together. Be Patient.

7.) And the Most Important Thing Of All:

 REPETITION, REPETITION, REPETITION!!!!!

So when it comes to starting off in a CST course, these are few good things to remember. After that you could Talk to Me in Computer.....
